Music works by creating vibrations, whether from human vocal cords or musical instruments, which travel through the air as sound waves. When these vibrations reach our ears, tiny receptors convert them into electrical signals that are sent to the brain. This process triggers a wide range of emotional responses, often flooding the body with positive emotions like joy, excitement, or calm. Our nervous system becomes deeply connected to the source of the sound, resonating with its rhythm, tone, and energy, allowing us to reflect and experience the emotions embedded within the music itself.

All the connection described in the first paragraph happened to me last autumn when my wife and I experienced our first event by Visioninmusica—Spoleto Jazz. As we arrived at Piazza del Duomo, we were struck by an indescribable feeling. The atmosphere as we entered the historic Caio Melisso theater and found our seats told me something extraordinary was about to unfold. Australian artist Sarah McKenzie and her band performed jazz classics and Bossa Nova with an energy that immediately connected to our souls. One year later, in September 2024, I reached out to Visioninmusica’s team to express my gratitude for what my wife and I will always remember as the best jazz concert of our lives. After meeting Visioninmusica’s president and artistic director, Silvia Alunni, I discovered the depth of their incredible work. My goal here is to share with you how fantastic their productions are and how deeply they connect with the people of Umbria.

Visioninmusica has embodied dynamism, innovation, and quality since its foundation in Terni 20 years ago. Under Silvia Alunni’s leadership, the organization excels at identifying emerging trends in contemporary music and discovering talents who achieve national and international acclaim. Beginning with its winter season, educational programs for schools, and Christmas concerts, Visioninmusica has expanded to include initiatives like Spoleto Jazz, La Voce della Terra, and Visioninmusica Summer. Since 2004, it has organized over 400 concerts, attracting 150,000 attendees from Italy and abroad. In addition to live events, Visioninmusica has a strong digital presence, particularly on YouTube, where its channel boasts over 17,000 subscribers and 5 million views, making it one of Italy’s leading platforms for audiovisual music content.

Visioninmusica’s projects stand out for their contemporary character, showcasing the creative inspirations of new generations while integrating various art forms. Often avant-garde, these productions emphasize experimentation and improvisation, highlighting the connection between music and imagery while promoting multidisciplinary and diverse artistic expressions and one of those is “Experimental Vim”.

“Experimental Vim” is an initiative that blends music with the cultural and natural heritage of Umbria, Italy. Now in its third edition, it has attracted over half a million global viewers on YouTube. This project showcases the beauty of historic and cultural locations across nine Umbrian towns, including Spoleto, Todi, and Orvieto, featuring artists like British guitarist Mike Dawes and Armenian pianist Tigran Hamasyan. Using 4K technology and professional filming techniques, “Experimental Vim” creates memorable experiences that celebrate the region’s landscapes. Its global reach underscores the power of the internet for cultural sharing, with the “Experimental Vim 2024” playlist available on YouTube.

Visioninmusica also plays a pivotal role in education through its Scuola project, offering original productions featuring evening season artists and young Umbrian musicians. This initiative blends traditional music with new artistic languages, engaging young people in a conscious listening experience. The project runs from February to April and includes educational lessons that allow students to interact with musical themes, instruments, narration, and imagery. Visioninmusica Scuola has successfully involved around 2,000 students each season.

Music has a profound ability to connect us to our emotions, and Visioninmusica amplifies this power by merging sound with culture, education, and visual art, creating truly immersive experiences for all of us in Umbria.
